Derek Psyharden is a character in the Chrome Shelled Regios novel and its adaptations. He is Layfon "Wolfstein" Alseif and Leerin Marfes's adopted father and mentor.
Biography[]
It's unknown exactly when Layfon and Leerin came under Derek's care in the orphanage in Grendan. He taught Layfon the Psyharden techniques throughout the boy's childhood. Initially, he was furious over the gambling and underground match incident involving Layfon, but Leerin revealed that Derek had forgiven him long ago. He gave Leerin a box which contains a DITE to recognize Layfon for learning all of the Psyharden techniques.
He and Haia's master were brother apprentices.
In the novel, he stated Layfon needed forgiveness especially toward himself because he was sober and dull. He also revealed he had a katana ready for Layfon but he finished teaching him the Psyharden skills when he was very young and lost the chance to give it to him afterward since he used a sword. He knew Layfon refused to inherit it because he felt guilty about his wrongdoing and betraying.
